IG Metall Berlin invites you to the first panel discussion titled "Back to Office!? The newest backlash in managerial culture and what workers can do against it." With many companies calling employees back to the office, we're seeing a cultural and political step backwards. But what does this mean for workers in the digital economy? And how can they help shape this trend—or resist it? The discussion is particularly aimed at English-speaking tech workers in Berlin and anyone interested in modern working conditions.

The event will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025, from 5:45 PM to 8:45 PM, at IG Metall Berlin, Alte Jakobstraße 149, 10969 Berlin, Room 06 (Ground Floor).

The evening will begin with inspiring keynote contributions and expert input. Dr. Yvonne Lott from the Hans Böckler Foundation will examine why remote work can be a career disadvantage—especially for women. Daniel Weidmann, labor law expert from the law firm dka, will provide an overview of current legal frameworks concerning in-office mandates and mobile work. A short video contribution by Dr. Annika Krick (Helmut Schmidt University) will explore how digital leadership affects health and workplace culture.

Following the keynotes, we'll dive into a panel discussion featuring voices from unions, companies, and research. Speakers include:
    •    Cindy Fasanya, confidant at CARIAD SE
    •    Jan Brauburger and Sören Lieske, IG Metall Berlin, Team Digital Economy
    •    Dr. Yvonne Lott, Hans Böckler Foundation
    •    Daniel Weidmann, labor law specialist, dka law firm

Together, they'll explore how employees can actively shape their working conditions. What specific actions can they take? How can collective agreements like collective bargaining be used and developed? And what modern solutions are needed for a fair and contemporary world of work?

In the final part of the evening, the audience will have the chance to ask questions directly to the panelists. Together, we aim to share concrete challenges and best practices—and develop ideas on how we can face the "Back to Office" trend with confidence and solidarity.

After the official program, you are invited to enjoy snacks and drinks during an informal get-together, an excellent opportunity for networking and deeper conversations with fellow workers, speakers, and the IG Metall team.

We're looking forward to an exciting evening with you!
