CARIAD pay negotiations begin: IG Metall demands 7% pay increase

19.12.2024 | The first negotiations for a collective pay increase for CARIAD employees took place this month. IG Metall had previously terminated the collective agreements covering compensation at the individual, team, cross-team and corporate levels to renegotiate their terms. As with all Volkswagen group companies, IG Metall is demanding a 7 % pay increase.

During the first hour and a half of negotiations, IG Metall and the company's management representatives presented and explained their respective positions. The significant gap between both sides quickly became clear, and the brief exchange of arguments did not result in any movement toward an angreement. The parties agreed to continue negotiations in January.

Background on CARIAD Collective Bargaining

  • The current collective agreements for CARIAD compensation were last negotiated for 2023 and 2024 and will expire on December 31, 2024.
  • On October 14, 2024, IG Metall's collective bargaining committee, elected by its members, decided to demand a 7% pay increase, aligning with demands made for other Volkswagen group companies.
  • As per existing agreements, IG Metall and CARIAD are required to begin negotiations at least two weeks before the expiration date.
  • A no-strike clause is in place until January 28, 2025, prohibiting any industrial action before that date.
  • Although the agreements expire on December 31, 2024, they will remain in effect until replaced by new agreements.
